By Amanda Maynord, Senior Advisor As the nation braces for an anticipated outbreak of the new coronavirus, communications teams at hospitals and health systems across the country are moving into action.
Responding to media and educating communities during a public health crisis can be challenging, but with the right tools, organizations can be a calming voice in a swirl of conflicting information.
Is your organization ready to communicate about the new coronavirus?
To keep up with this everchanging global issue, we’ve bookmarked a few useful resources to share:
Johns Hopkins offers a highly useful interactive global map, displaying confirmed cases by country/region. The site tallies the total number of COVID-19 recoveries and deaths, which is currently about 15:1. The New York Times also visually maps international and U.S. cases (below the scroll), and a map from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control allows viewers to track the number of cases by time period.
The U.S. Department Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights has issued a special bulletin about HIPAA Privacy and Novel
Coronavirus.
As expected, the CDC Coronavirus Disease page offers significant resources for staying abreast of this global health issue:
A limited selection of relevant downloadable images and video B-roll, as well as an infographic detailing how the CDC is responding to the outbreak and preparing for potential community spread in U.S.
Lastly, know that organizations like National Nurses United and the Service Employees International Union are communicating with their
members about what to expect from employers in response to the virus. If you’re not talking to your employees about this world issue, it’s likely someone else is!
